Fall Hit List

New York seems to be hanging onto the last days of Summer with a hot and sticky Labor Day weekend, even though Fall started months ago in the fashion world.  With a flurry of cozy knits and buttery leather leggings, it’s hard to resist the ever growing sweater stacks in stores even though it’s still hot.

I always find myself overwhelmed at the beginning of a new season, trying to decide which key pieces will anchor my wardrobe for the coming months, and which to spend less on as a trend.  The above hit list picks are my must haves for the cooler months, season after season.

Balaboosta

Last weekend was my husband’s first birthday in New York.  Celebrating in Sydney has always been amazing, so I was determined to make the weekend one to remember.  I thought it fitting that brunch started off the day at Balaboosta in Soho.  The name itself quite literally means good wife, so I thought it fitting for our morning nibbles. 🙂

The rest of the weekend was comprised of cortados at Intelligentsia, walk along the High Line, watch shopping at Shinola(love the story behind this brand) and an afternoon in Central Park.  The birthday boy was in his element and very happy!

High Flyer

As some of you know, I’ve been marinating on which new bag to add to my family for several months now.  I think any girl will understand my mental conflict:  What’s going to remain a classic but has personality?  Functional vs. fashionable or both? Size? What don’t I have in my collection?  The list went on and on, especially when deciding on an investment piece.

I have always kept a short wish list, which is where I started my journey. After countless hours on Purse Forum, many visits to Valentino, Celine and Chanel and even a Facebook poll, I narrowed it down to the Chanel boy bag vs. the new Celine trapeze mini.  Ultimately I went with the Celine for several reasons.  While I love the boy, the trapeze has been on my list for quite sometime.  It’s classic yet knows how to nail color saturation, and the mini size sealed the deal being perfect for my frame.

As any girl will attest, it ultimately comes down to sheer emotional attachment and for me, the rich cobalt and classic design of the mini trapeze stole my heart. I can’t wait to pull this little baby out all season for a happy pop of color during the dismal Winter months!

Faded

Last week was all white and this week, I’m drawn to the dark-side. I was inspired by revisiting my favorite plum lip, to slip into some of my darker pieces head to toe. Basic black always works, but when textures mix and different shade come together, it gives an otherwise predictable outfit dimension. I’ve had my Rag & Bone distressed denim for two seasons now and they are still my go to as a nice change from my normal blue ripped jeans.  They’ve been in  R&B’s rotation for several seasons now and I can see why. Perfect fade, perfect rips and perfect fit….as per usual from the brand.
