This past weekend kicked off my Birthday week (I always keep the party going for at least a week in Jan).  I was overwhelmed by all the birthday wishes and sweet gifts from my friends and family.  They really know how to make a girl feel special!

Just the basics

Transitioning into Fall is all about texture and rich colors.  Like any new season, there is always flurry of “must have” trends and the “color du jour of the season”, but I find that some key pieces have staying power year after year.  My winning trifecta:  A rich lip and nail, textured bag and/or heels and a perfectly tailored blazer.  I love the crispness of a white blazer, even into Fall and Winter.  Paired with dark denim, any detailed accessory will shine.  A dark berry lip and nail pull everything together as the perfect transition into the new season.

Love me knot

Every girl has an abundance of one item or another in her closet and for me… wait for it …I have 3 drawers full of scarves. Yes I know this comes as no surprise.  My love affair was seriously fueled when I added my first Theodora & Callum to the mix.  The Tie-all is such a versatile piece and I have to admit, I really don’t utilize it to full creative capacity when quickly draping it around my neck on the way out the door. I decided to shake up my scarf rut and try something new with the triple knot.  I loved the newness just 3 little knots brought.  I fully intend to keep my scarves busy this Summer with the endless possibilities!

Check out Theodora & Callum’s ways to wear videos here.

Sheer genius

golden half B

This past weekend was the first time I actually started to believe Spring would make it’s entrance into NYC….eventually.  Every tulip was is full bloom and the white blossoms in Central Park that had suddenly appeared while we were in Japan, were reminiscent of the cherry blossoms we had become accustomed to.

I took full advantage and spent the weekend, like every other New Yorker, outside for every possible second. I had been waiting for the weather to cooperate with my gladiator itch and new goodie from The Dreslyn – sheer perfection from Equipment.  The light and airy silk was perfection with really… anything, but I thought my golden sandals and perfectly worn in boyfriend shorts were the right mix.

Stop and smell the roses

roses close

The phrase “Busy New Yorker” was always just that, a phrase.  Now that we are officially residents of the Big Apple, I totally understand this state of mind.  Going from a very laid back Sydney-sider to running in heels around the City has been a new way of life.  I find I have to remind myself to slow down and smell the roses.  Last weekend, I literally did just that.  My personality type is such that I always have to be doing something, going somewhere or I feel unproductive.  Taking a moment to sit, relax and enjoy the things that make me happy is a way of life I’m starting to incorporate.

Bring on Spring

springquad

Bright colors are popping up everywhere with the anticipation of Spring’s long awaited arrival.  To make it through the last weeks of Winter, I’ve already started adding color to my closet.  This is my list of wants and some gems that I already own and love to brighten any day. Bring on the buds!

The Fringe

fringe redo2

Anyone who knows me understands my small obsession with denim (note the sarcasm here).  I don’t know what it is, but even washes that are just slightly different from one’s I already own always seem to leave the store with me.

Since moving to New York and loosing about half my closet space, I really had to pick favorites.  Lately I’ve been living in my go to uniform: over-sized white button down, denim and heels (with Hunter’s in tow of course)  The frayed hem detailing gives my usual clean, tailored jeans a bit of edge that I love.  Even though these came with the unfinished hemline, I’ve become somewhat of a professional at this alteration given my munchkin-like size. 🙂
