After coming off a week in Vegas full of pool parties, dinners, work functions and of course a spot…or two… of shopping, I was in desperate need of some relaxation. Fortunately Labor Day welcomed me with open arms.
Saturday morning was reserved for a slow start with breakfast in bed and a recap session with my husband on how amazing Absinthe was (a must see) and what a giddy little cookie I’d become about breaking out my new bright vermillion Dior! I have to admit, as an accessories lover, this little gem was a great find and a digression from my usual brand selection. It’s also my first lambskin piece which I was assured by the sales associate in Dior, was the right choice. (More on this in a later post). Amongst my dark Fall and Winter layers, I can’t wait for this pop of color to brighten any cold, gloomy day.

Last weekend was my husband’s first birthday in New York. Celebrating in Sydney has always been amazing, so I was determined to make the weekend one to remember. I thought it fitting that brunch started off the day at Balaboosta in Soho. The name itself quite literally means good wife, so I thought it fitting for our morning nibbles. 🙂
The rest of the weekend was comprised of cortados at Intelligentsia, walk along the High Line, watch shopping at Shinola–(love the story behind this brand) and an afternoon in Central Park. The birthday boy was in his element and very happy!

Last week was all white and this week, I’m drawn to the dark-side. I was inspired by revisiting my favorite plum lip, to slip into some of my darker pieces head to toe. Basic black always works, but when textures mix and different shade come together, it gives an otherwise predictable outfit dimension. I’ve had my Rag & Bone distressed denim for two seasons now and they are still my go to as a nice change from my normal blue ripped jeans. They’ve been in R&B’s rotation for several seasons now and I can see why. Perfect fade, perfect rips and perfect fit….as per usual from the brand.

I will always gravitate towards a ripped pair of jeans over a skirt, or a masculine cross-body in leu of a girly clutch complete with bow accent (not that there’s anything wrong with a super feminine look). I also love mixing opposing styles and colors to give and otherwise basic look some edge.
My husband always knows when a tee or one of his watches has gone missing, I’m probably the culprit. 🙂 For the Summer, my darker wash denim jacket is traded for it’s lighter version and ripped denim goes from jeans to shorts becoming an overall lighter look. Chunky black accessories and a masculine watch will definitely keep me from floating away.

I’m always a fan of bright colors and I can say without a doubt, this piece (I scored on sale) is by far a new favorite. Needless to say, people can see me coming from a mile away, but my obnoxiously loud color (hard to even capture in a photo) seemed to command a friendly smile from most.
I think everyone needs that one hue that just makes you feel good when you put it on, and pink-or anything in that family– is one of those for me. The fact that I stumbled upon the brightest version possible is just a bonus. With Summer underway and Fall already starting to show up in fashion, I love the idea of letting this dress shine in the warmer months and pairing it down with darker pieces for the Fall.

Having always loved my denim, I’m a sucker for a good double dose of it. When I stumbled upon these vintage, distressed gems in Sydney a few years ago (and paid 20 dollars-score), I knew they would join my collection. Natural or man-made, a good pair of cutoffs are essential for warmer weather-and I personally believe, make any Summer more fabulous!

With warmer weather on the horizon and a new work gig, I decided it was time for a much needed chop. I’ve always been a bit nervous about cutting any more that 1 inch off my hair so when my stylist took a little over 3, I took a sigh of relief when I realized I loved it. With an 85 degree weekend, I was happy to shed my locks….for now 🙂
