Layer up

This week was insanely busy, with the highlight being the delivery of our 28 boxes arriving from Sydney.  While I was elated to be reunited with my clothes, I have come to several conclusions:

1. It may be possible to own to many pairs of jeans (my husband would have had a full on panic attack if he had been around for the unpacking of my “denim boxes”).

2. Boxes in large groups can be gang like and scary.

3. International moves are a completely different undertaking all together.

As I’ve attempted to “break up the gang” of towering boxes, I am grateful that their arrival has been perfect timing with the onset of Winter.  Many of my layering pieces were on this boat and from what I hear, NYC Winters are brutal. A couple extra layers couldn’t hurt!

One of my key wardrobe pieces is a crisp, black blazer and walking through New York City on a weekday morning, it seems to be the unofficial uniform.  Even though my favorite blazer can be paired with anything, I love a clean, monochromatic look with different textures to add dimension.  Coated leggings, nubby tee and patent pumps, transformed an otherwise plain outfit into something fabulous!

White Collar

With a new place to call home, 98 degree weather and my poor wardrobe still partially in suitcases (and some still on a cruise through the Pacific-hopefully on their way to me), my first day on the Upper West Side was hot and hectic.  I decided to fight the sweltering heat with white on white.  The linen button down was perfect for the heat and I love that the slight off white tone contrast with the milkiness of the denim.  My entire belt collection has somehow gone missing, so in a pinch, I raided my husband’s stash to complete my outfit.

Turquoise & Coral

Being that I’m mildly obsessed with scarves (note the sarcasm), I could hardly wait for Theodora & Callum’s new collection to be released.   Recently, I’ve been attracted to turquoise or anything in that color family, so the Anatolia scarf was perfection.  The colors are reminiscent of our honeymoon to Anguilla.  The water was spectacular and something we will definitely revisit soon!

I have always been a sucker for a pair of distressed jeans.  I love their soft, loved feel. They are pretty much my off duty uniform with a simple tee and flats on the weekends; so it was no surprise that I fell in  love with everything about Rag & Bone’s Sheffield wash, and of course had to have them.  I decided to go a bit fancy and pair my ripped lovelies with a crisp, tailored blazer and jeweled necklace.  I’m loving the contrast!

For rainy days, cooler afternoons or a walk along the beach, the anorak is my go to jacket.  It’s literally the most versatile piece in my closet when it comes to outerwear.  One of my favorite inspirations is the many ways Olivia Palermo tootles around town in her army green version of this piece.  For a more polished look, I love adding a colorful or military inspired belt to cinch the waist of this laid back jacket.
